Message from Mr Williams, Head

Dear Parents,

The highlight of this week was Secondary Sports day which took place on Thursday. For the first time in GES history, everyone in Year 7 to 13 participated and the day was full of laughter and energy as the four houses competed against each other in a range of different events. Congratulations to the house leaders and athletes for making it such a memorable day and I am pleased to share a video featuring many of the students here. Children at Primary are also practising hard for their own sports days and we look forward to seeing many of you at school next week.

Last Friday our regular parent reps meeting took place and, following our discussion together, we have slightly moved the dates for May half term next year: this will run from Wednesday 8 to Sunday 12 May. The school calendar has been updated accordingly. We are also looking at offering after school care during staff training days in January and April – we will write with more information, including fees for this, after the summer.

As the weather continues to get warmer, a reminder to please make sure that your children have a hat, sunscreen and a water bottle at school. We want to ensure that they remain protected from the summer sun when learning and playing outside.

Have a lovely weekend,

Matt Williams
Head

From Mrs Vavrecka, Primary Literacy Coordinator

This month in the library we are having a reading marathon. Primary pupils are challenged to read as many books as they can before the month runs out.

To take part in this reading race, you must read every single day. Finish one book… start another!

Record all the book titles you read on this Challenge sheet and hand it in to your class teacher by the end of the month to receive a reading certificate and 5 points for your house.

Good luck!

Save the dates

Shrek the Musical: Tuesday 27 June

All GES parents are welcome to watch the ‘Shrek’ performance of our Secondary students at the Salle de Spectacle in Genthod, as of 18:00.

Primary school children will watch the show during the day.

Ski residential trip 2024

A heads-up that our optional ski residential trip will take place from 2 to 6 January 2024.

We will be traveling a little further up the valley, to Saas-Grund & Saas-Fee for a truly unforgettable experience. The Saas-Fee ski area is a stunning and high resort that allows skiing nearly all year round on the high glacier, which allows for a great experience when snow levels are low in other resorts.

This trip will be open to Year 6 and Secondary students.

We are currently finalising the registration process and will send you all the details by email next week.

Secondary Sports Day and House competitions

House competitions, from Ms Brewin

Yesterday’s Sports Day marked the final week of the Secondary House competitions for 2022-2023 and rewarded the winning houses for their achievements this year.

This morning we celebrated all houses, with House Captains sharing photos, congratulating their teams and handing over to next year’s House Captains. The overall winning house, Dôle, enjoyed a Celebratory House Breakfast in the Grand Café.

Well done to all students for taking part in the various competitions and establishing a great team spirit across the year groups, and thank you to all teachers who helped the House competitions run so successfully this year!

After chess, tug-of-war, karaoké, football, Maths, basketball, cross-country, or general knowledge, we cannot wait to see the new challenges Ms Brewin will be coming up with next year.
