Message from Mr Williams, Head
Dear Families,
I am really proud to lead GES. I get to work with your wonderful children day in, day out and, under the careful guidance of our brilliant staff, I get to see them grow and develop over time. On Monday and Tuesday this week we had our school photographs taken and last night I received a wonderful email from the organiser that I wanted to share with you:
“We so enjoyed our two days at GES. All the staff and pupils were so friendly, helpful, enthusiastic and kept to the timetable and it made our job so easy. I would be very grateful if you would convey our thanks to all. I was especially impressed by the children. Your pupils are amazing. They smiled, said hello and were helpful even if they were just passing you in the corridor. I was so impressed and this is a huge reflection on the ethos that you and the staff have created in the school.”
Thank you to you and to everyone for helping us build such a wonderful and caring environment, ensuring that each child is supported and flourishing in school.
Over the next few weeks, we will be pushing the values of a GES education across radio and print as we update our marketing campaign across the local area. We appreciate all you do as ambassadors of our great school in spreading the word. Our happy children are our best advertisement!
Next week, on Wednesday 4 October at 18:00, Year 5 and 6 parents are warmly invited to an open evening at our GES Secondary campus. I will be talking broadly about the choices for your child at the age of 11, the difference between a UK curriculum and the IB, and talking in more detail about A Levels and how these qualifications give young people access to global universities. If anyone with children in other year groups would like to attend, you would be very welcome; please just drop [email protected] a message so we know to expect you.
For our Year 11 and Year 13 parents, just a reminder that you have an online parents’ evening with each subject teacher on Thursday next week. This is a key time to hear how your child is doing in each subject area and what they need to work on to get the best results possible in their summer exams.
Finally, we have four holiday camps running at half term:
16 – 20 October:
- Expressive Arts – Dance, Arts & Crafts, Ceramics
- TechLabs 3D Printing Lab
23 – 27 October:
- Fun French Immersion
- Multi-sport, Fitness and Well-being
Please have a look at our website here to find out more and to book places here.
Finally if you need to get in touch with your Class Rep(s), please use this updated list, that is available in My School Portal, under Parent Community.
Have a great weekend,
Matt Williams
Head

House Captains Bake sale
A huge ‘thank you’ to all little hands who baked delicious goods for yesterday’s bake sale organised by Year 6 House Captains.
We managed to raise in the region of 550 CHF, and the money will be donated to this charity for the people of Morocco who have been impacted by the recent devastating earthquake.
Thank you to everyone who supported this fundraiser, and don’t forget to bring your pre-loved costume for next Thursday’s costume sale!
October Reading Challenge, from Mrs Vavrecka
This month in the library we are celebrating Halloween, and your challenge will be to read and enjoy as many spooky stories as you can. Each time you read a spooky story, colour in a pumpkin on this Halloween Challenge recording sheet and write the name of the book title inside. So go and grab a spooky story from the library and get reading!
En français?
Why not choose a French spooky story to read with your family?
Fill in all your pumpkins on the pumpkin sheet by the end of the month to receive 5 stars and a reading challenge certificate.
Good luck!

New Escalade T-Shirt
As per our email sent this afternoon, please note that the provider of our PE kits, Kukri, has designed a long-sleeved navy blue top (S-Spire 100% Polyester – a similar material to our PE kits) that children (and adults) will be able to wear during their Escalade races (and even afterwards for Sport & PE lessons, extra-curricular activities or educational trips).
To order this new Escalade top, please fill in this online form on My School Portal and purchase using your credit card or Paypal account by next Friday 6 October, so we can place the order and receive the items on time for the Escalade races.
A size guide is available here.

Secondary GES Golfers
Our Secondary GES golf team had a great time yesterday at Evian Les Bains as part of the Schools Golf Europe Tour.
They enjoyed PGA PRO coaching and a 9-hole academy course against 5 other Swiss international schools, all in the sun and with stunning views of Lake Léman.
Thanks to Miss Shibil for accompanying the students.
GES teams will participate in a couple of Netball and Football meets in the coming weeks, starting tomorrow at the Primary campus. Stay tuned to our Facebook and Instagram accounts for pictures and results!
