Message from the Head

Dear Parents,

What a week it has been! Our students have been involved in such wonderful activities all week, from climbing to rocket making, from orienteering to performing in Peter Pan, it really has been non-stop. Thank you to all the teachers for arranging all the activities and thank you to our Year 10 students who have been helping out all week at Primary as part of their work experience.

Last night we held our celebration event for our first Year 11 group of students. Lucie, Marco, Cora, Naz, Jacopo and Leila have been pioneers and set an impressive pathway through their GCSE studies. They have worked so hard and last night we were able to say well done to them and thank the staff and Ms Peart who has been with them at Secondary since day one.

On Wednesday evening we will be celebrating Year 6 and their achievements at GES Primary. We are looking forward to seeing their parents and having a great time together. A note on guidelines for the event from the Canton of Geneva Education department: you will need to sterilise your hands when you arrive and wear masks at all times (apart from when eating and drinking). The seating for the event will respect social distancing. We are also required to keep a record of your attendance for 14 days after the evening. Thank you for your cooperation with the above guidance.

Next Friday we will hold special assemblies in school to celebrate the wonderful things all year groups have achieved this year. We will make sure that lots of photos are taken and will share these with you either online or via the newsletter.

Have a wonderful weekend

Primary - Lower School: Sports Day Highlights

After last week’s emotional battles for the track and field medals of the older Primary students, it was the turn of our younger children to show off their speed, agility and general sportsmanship. Ms Shibil, Mr Sharpe and various helping hands (including Y10 students) have created some wonderful moments for the children.

Here is a wonderful video with some of the highlights of the sports days – we hope you enjoy this as much as we did.

Culture Vultures outing: Hamlet (review)

The play Hamlet is considered one of Shakespeare’s masterpieces. In the play, Hamlet’s father, the King of Denmark was murdered. His Ghost tells Hamlet to seek for revenge by killing the new king. The play leaves the audience with the message that revenge is deadly since Hamlet causes his own death and the death of his whole family by his obsession with revenge.

The performance of TNT theatre group at the Château de Prangins which is supposed to be one of the most beautiful castles in Switzerland, reflected the romantic flavour of the late medieval ages. Through using a range of theatrical elements and stock characters, the theatre company delivered a stunning performance.

I enjoyed the performance a lot, as it was entertaining, whilst delivering the tragic message of Hamlet. The British-French writer Hilaire Belloc once said: If a person has not read or seen Hamlet they may as well have spent their life at the bottom of a deep well.
