Message from Mr Williams, Headteacher

Dear Parents,

I hope that, if your child has been on a residential trip, you have enjoyed the quiet this week and not missed them too much. The reports that I have heard back from Italy and Switzerland are that students and staff have had a fabulous time. If you have not managed to see the photos of the different trips then please read further down this newsletter for a glimpse of our students in action. Staff do try their best to get photos of every child, but please understand that it may not be possible to get great pictures of everyone.

Next week is a busy last week of term and I thought it would be useful to outline what is coming up:

Monday

  • Beauty and the Beast performance at the Espace Culturel de Genthod from 6.00pm to 7.30pm

Tuesday

  • Year 6 to Year 7 transition day at Secondary.
  • The Addams Family performance in the Espace Culturel de Genthod from 6.00pm to 7.30pm

Wednesday

  • Year 6 graduation event at Primary from 5.15pm to 6.15pm

Friday

  • End of term at Primary and Secondary at midday
  • 12pm to 2pm – End of term whole-school community picnic at Primary.

I hope you have a wonderful weekend and I look forward to seeing many of you at the events above next week.

Matt Williams

Smashing Success for our Primary Residential Trips

Our Primary campus has grown increasingly quiet this week as students in Years 3, 4, 5 and 6 have successively departed on their residential trips.

Enjoying the great outdoors in the canton of Valais, our adventurers have taken part in some exciting activities ranging from archery to land art, from hiking to mountain biking, from wall-climbing to tree-climbing and much more! Click on the links below for photos of each year group’s trip.

Artistic Time Travel for our Key Stage 3 Students

Our Key Stage 3 students enjoyed a fun visit to the Musée d’Art et d’Histoire in Geneva this week.

As they walked through the museum, their teacher, Ms Hopley, explained the evolution of the different art styles across the centuries, and the vast array of paintings, sculptures and artefacts certainly piqued our students’ interest.

After the museum visit, our exhibition-goers treated themselves to a well-deserved ice cream.

2000 Year-Old Travels

Our Secondary globetrotters have had a whirlwind of fun and learning during their residential trip to Naples this week. Taking a tour back through history, they discovered the fascinating episode of the eruption of Mount Vesuvius in 79 AD, which engulfed the ancient towns of Pompeii and Herculaneum.

During their guided tours of the area, they were able to witness the recreation of gladiator battles and admire 2000-year-old mosaics and frescos.

GES Joins King Charles' Birthday Celebrations

This week, representatives of GES had the honour of attending a celebration of King Charles’ birthday at the residence of the British Ambassador to the United Nations, Simon Manley.

Organised by the British Residents’ Association and the British Swiss Chamber of Commerce at the magnificent Château de Bossey, this event was a great opportunity for our school to demonstrate the central role we play in the private education sector in Geneva. We were proud to have our flags flying for all guests to see at this celebration.
