Message from Mr Williams, Head

Dear Families,

I’m glad to report that all of our Secondary students that were on different outward bound trips have returned safely and had a great time. From the Year 10 students that canoed on the Rhône river to the Year 13 students that scaled the Moiry glacier, they all had experiences that will stay with them for the rest of their lives. Thank you, as always, to the teachers who devoted their weekends to taking students on these amazing adventures.

Just a reminder to our Year 5 parents that they are welcome to come for a tour of our Secondary campus on Wednesday 27 September, and that Year 6 parents are invited for a tour on Wednesday 4 October, in both cases from 13:45. These visits will be followed by a presentation to both sets of parents about the GES Secondary curriculum and programme on Wednesday 4 October at 18:00 at the Secondary campus. Please refer to the emails you will have received for more information, or contact us directly if you have questions. There is ample parking in our underground car park, and we are looking forward to seeing many of you at these events.

Next Monday, across the school, we will be celebrating the European Day of Languages. This is a really important day in our calendar as it allows us to celebrate the diversity of the languages that are spoken across the GES community. Thank you to those parents who are coming in to participate. It is with the support of our wonderfully international and multilingual community that such an event takes on its true meaning!

On Monday at Secondary and Tuesday at Primary, we will be taking our annual school photos, so please remember:

  • Students should wear smart clothes, and avoid white tops or those with bold patterns, big slogans or brand names.
  • GES branded clothing may be worn.
  • Students who have Sport & PE lessons on those days should wear their PE kit as normal.
  • It is recommended that students bring a brush or comb to school if you would like them to tidy their hair before their photos are taken.
  • If you have more than one child in school and you would like us to organise a sibling photo, please notify us by replying to the email sent on this topic.

Finally, we have published the term dates for next academic year on the website here, so please take a moment to have a look and update your diaries accordingly.

Have a great weekend,

Matt Williams
Head

Cross-Country results

The long, early journey to Bern for the SGIS Cross Country meet last Saturday was a resounding success for all GES runners, who gave their best and came away with an array of individual medals and trophies!

Fantastic efforts from all, but most importantly the team spirit was unrivalled and the support and cheering when a GES runner was on the course was superb.

Congratulations to all the athletes who took part – we are very proud of you!

Netball Workshop next Saturday 30 September

Ms Shibil is delighted to be offering a netball workshop on Saturday 30 September 2023 for all students in Year 6 and Secondary.

This will take place from 9:00 to 11:00 at GES Primary.

This is an excellent opportunity for GES students to develop as a team and receive extra preparation for netball tournaments throughout the school year, or merely learn new skills and have fun with their friends on a Saturday morning at the GES Primary campus.

Please complete this online form by next Monday 25 September if you wish for your child to attend the additional training session.

GO GES Runners!

GES Staff and Parents running

This weekend, a number of our staff members and parents will be running in races in Switzerland, and we would like to wish them “bonne chance” in races, including:

  • RunMate relay race around Lake Léman (218 km)
  • StraLugano 10 km CityRun

Tackling challenges, pushing limits and never giving up are, indeed, part of our core values, and should inspire our students.

Escalade registration

60 runners are already registered to be part of the GES team – well done and keep the enrolments coming! Remember, we need to break out record of 95 runners!

Please use this link to sign your child(ren) up as part of our GES group.

Mr Sheppard-Burgess is gradually adding students to this team sheet as they register (password: GES2023!).

We encourage parents to check the list a couple of days after they have registered to ensure their child’s name is down and nobody is left out.

Merci beaucoup!
