GES celebrates superb GCSE results

Date Posted: Friday 25 August 2023

At Geneva English School, the excellent results continue to roll in.

Yesterday our Year 11 students received their GCSE results. Like the A Levels a week ago, the GCSE results are superb and significantly above UK averages. We are proud to announce a 99% pass rate, with 76% of all grades awarded at a 7 or above. This represents a 2% improvement on last year, 30% above the private school average in the UK and 54% above the UK state school average.

Further highlights include:

  • 29% of all grades achieved were the top grade of 9, and 57% were 8 and above.
  • 50% of students taking Biology or Physics received a grade 9.
  • Our early entry linguists achieved 100% grades 8 and above, meaning that every one of them achieved at least an A* in French or German.
  • Overall, 98% of students who sat a GCSE exam at GES achieved at least one 8 or 9 grade, and 10% of Year 11 students at GES scored only 8 and 9 grades – an absolutely brilliant result!

Our students and their teachers should be enormously proud of their hard work and dedication, and we are confident that their success will continue as they tackle their A Levels. Our Year 13 graduates have set the bar high with their 100% pass rate, and our new Year 12 class is surely up to the task.

Once again, we wish all the best to our recent graduates and to our GCSE class, and hearty congratulations one and all!

Founded in 1961, Geneva English School is built on the strong foundations of the British Education system, providing structure and challenge at Primary level and choice and opportunity at Secondary level. We may be English in name, but our welcoming, thriving school community is as diverse as the Geneva area we serve, with over 45 nationalities represented among our students aged 3 to 18. We are deliberately a small school, focused on getting to know our students and their families to ensure that every young person is challenged and supported through their childhood and teenage years. Our academic outcomes and pastoral care are graded outstanding by the Independent Schools Inspectorate and we are the only school in Switzerland accredited as a British Schools Overseas by the UK government’s Department for Education.
