Message from the Head

Dear Parents and Carers,

As we reach the end of another school year I want to thank you, the teachers and your children for such a great 10 months. To me it was a year of two halves, one half had masks and no activities and the second half has been jam packed with trips, visits, fixtures and all the events that makes GES such a special place to come to school. This past week we have had an Alumni event, the Summer Fair, Grease performance, a host of amazing D of E expeditions, Year 6 graduation and lots of fun in lessons as the school year closes.

For some of you this will be your last newsletter and I wish you and your family all the best for the future. GES is a great place and you are always welcome back here – be it for the Summer and Christmas Fair, a production or one of our alumni events. As well as some families, we are also saying goodbye to a number of staff who are leaving GES this summer. Thank you to all of them for everything they have done at the school and the impact they have had. A special thank you needs to go to Sue Power for her 39 years of service at GES – we have celebrated Sue’s contribution to the school over the last week and it has been wonderful to listen to the impact that she has had on so many families over the years. Thank you, Sue.

Over the summer, there will be holiday camps and school improvement work taking place. If you are coming to the Primary site, parking on the courts won’t be available as they are being resurfaced. The office teams at Primary and Secondary are working shorter days (9:00 – 15:00) and for the first week of August the office will be closed. If you do need to contact the school for any reason then the response may be slightly slower than in term time.

I hope you have a great summer holiday and I look forward to seeing students and families on Thursday 25 August.

Matt Williams,
Head

Summer Fair

Thanks again to all Parent Group responsibles, Class Reps, all parents and in particular Marybeth Hemsley, Zita Sheikh and Ian Griffith who have been coordinating our beautiful Summer Fair.

It was fantastic to see everyone enjoying themselves and you have been brilliant in contributing to raise an incredible amount of CHF 11’640.

Students success

The Tiger Knights basketball team which includes 3 of our own Year 8 girls (Ella, Nia and Mitra) finished first place in the Championnat AVB in the U14 girls category.

Last weekend, they won the final of the Coupe Vaudoise in the U14 girls category.

Congratulations girls – we are very proud of you, and looking forward to more sport success in the new academic year!

From Mme Durey, Head of Primary French

French Resources for the Summer

To all our students across the school, don’t forget to keep in touch with French during the Summer.

In My School Portal, under the section Languages, you can find some useful resources:

  • The GES French Language Passports to review the basics and be ready for September
  • Lists of recommendations which include books, websites and audio resources differentiated by year group and abilities.

Have a wonderful summer full of French!

Languages survey

As per our email this week, we would be grateful if you took a couple of minutes to fill in this Languages Survey to give us your views on the Language Academy (about last year’s classes and more generally your interest going forward) – thank you to those who have given us feedback already.

If you have not yet done so, we would really appreciate if you could complete the survey over the next few days.
