Geneva English School
Welcome
Welcome
Welcome to Geneva English School!
We are an academically successful, popular, all-through school for 3- to 18-year olds, based a short drive from the centre of Geneva and the United Nations, on the shores of Lac Léman and overlooking Mont Blanc. Our stunning location, first-class facilities and wonderful teachers provide the foundations for our young people to safely explore and grow. As one parent recently declared, ‘you never see an unhappy child at GES’.
Our school is an inclusive, friendly and thriving community with students following the English National Curriculum from the Early Years Foundation Stage, through the Primary years, to GCSE and A Levels. We believe that our rigorous and creative curriculum is second to none as it provides students with broad exposure to learning when they are young, and then allows specialisation in areas of interest and strength as they get older.
Our academic record is outstanding and comparable to the best independent schools in the UK and globally. At A Level in 2024, over 40% of all grades were A*-A, and GES students scored 50% above results for A Level exam-takers in the UK and worldwide. At GCSE, the proportion of GES students achieving top scores of 9 was more than twice the average of all students in the UK. Over 40% of our entries received a grade 7 or above, the equivalent to an A grade, again twice the average of students in the UK.
We may be English in name, but our school community is as diverse as the Geneva area we serve; we are very much an international school. GES welcomes students of over 60 nationalities, including many Swiss and French children. At last count, we had almost 50 languages spoken in school. All of our lessons are taught in English and we offer a bilingual Pre-school. We ensure that our students are taught French throughout their time with us and are supported in gaining formal qualifications in German and Spanish, as well as languages that they may speak at home. Our A Level pathway includes the opportunity for students to achieve a high level of French, so they can go on to university study in Geneva or France, as well as the UK, Europe, North America or even farther afield.
We are deliberately a small school, focused on getting to know our students and ensuring they are challenged and supported through their childhood and teenage years. We understand that young people today are under unprecedented pressure and we recognise that adolescent mental health is an issue in society as a whole. At GES, we ensure that students are not over-tested and that they benefit from a holistic education, including art, drama, music and a rich programme of individual and team sports. We offer a broad variety of clubs and after-school activities to develop our students’ passions and skills. As truly international citizens, our students will become the leaders of tomorrow.
We are proud to invite you to explore all that we have to offer. Please arrange to come for a visit or speak with us on a video call, watch our video, or follow us on social media. We look forward to meeting you and your children and to having you join the GES family.
