Excellent A Level results at Geneva English School

Date Posted: Thursday 14 August 2025

Congratulations to our Year 13 students on their outstanding A Level results. These brilliant outcomes are well deserved and are testament to the talent and dedication of both students and staff.

Today, the Geneva English School community is proud to celebrate yet another set of outstanding A Level results. Highlights include:

  • 99% passing grades, all but one entry.
  • More than half of all grades are A* or A (as compared with just over a quarter in the UK), surpassing last year’s excellent results.
  • 43% of our graduating class achieved one or more A* grades.
  • Over two thirds of our students secured one or more A*-A grades.
  • 26% of our students achieved straight A*-A grades – most having completed 4 subjects – and 15% achieved this result in 3 or more science subjects, including Further Maths.

Our students’ performance reflects GES’ commitment to high academic standards and individual achievement. Leading up to and throughout the two-year A Level programme, all conditions are in place to ensure that our students flourish. From the comfortable physical setting in our classrooms and study spaces, to small class sizes, personalised academic guidance and nurturing pastoral care, our Senior students are supported individually whilst thriving as a cohesive and convivial group.

A Level results day holds a special place for me in the school calendar because, as Head of Senior school, it is when our students’ next steps are confirmed as they progress to study at universities across the globe or take a gap year to travel and gain experience. Their results are truly outstanding, generally, but I have the privilege of knowing the individuals behind these figures – each excelling on their own terms with the support of our school, their teachers and their friends through this two-year academic journey. Knowing each and every student as I do, I want to take this opportunity to celebrate them fulfilling their individual potential and ambitions which create such a diverse tapestry of success stories. I also want to thank each and every member of the GES teaching team that has supported, challenged, guided and encouraged these young people to become the educated, articulate, compassionate and confident young adults they are, ready to progress in their lives and education.
Daniel Crabtree, Head of Senior School

Our Sociology students, 71% of whom achieved A*-A grades, deserve a special mention. An increasingly popular subject both in the UK and internationally, Sociology offers a solid basis for analytical, essay-based subjects at university, offering students an opportunity to develop a critical eye, which is increasingly important in facing the challenges of modern society. We would also like to celebrate our German and Spanish students for achieving 100% A* grades.

Following in the footsteps of previous cohorts, our 2025 graduates are setting off to universities worldwide. Among top UK destinations, our students are progressing to the University of Cambridge, the University of Durham, Imperial College London and King’s College London, all ranking in the top 20 universities and part of the renowned Russell Group.

This year, GES students marvellously illustrate the international recognition of A Level qualifications by securing places at eminent institutions globally, including the University of Amsterdam, the University of Geneva, Villanova University in Pennsylvania, and the highly academic ETH in Zürich, leader in the field of STEM.

GES is truly going from strength to strength. Our 2025 top-end A Level results are 98% above those of students writing AQA exam board assessments worldwide, and have surpassed our already-impressive 2024 grades by 53%. I am delighted that we can, once again this year, share outstanding results of our Year 13 class as a cohort, and I also look forward to celebrating the achievements of all our graduates, individually. Each has studied a combination of three or four of the 17 A Level subjects we offer, according to their strengths and passions, and that focus has clearly paid off for them in the form of superb grades and an enviable range of confirmed university places. They have made us very proud!
Christina Matillon, Director General

As always, in addition to congratulating our students for their efforts and hard work, we commend our teachers for their expertise, commitment and dedicated approach to teaching. This year’s A Level results truly reflect the GES values of achievement and excellence and they also epitomise our sense of community.

Well done, everyone, and we wish you great success and satisfaction as you continue on your exciting paths.
