Learning French at GES Primary

Date Posted: Tuesday 11 November 2025

We were on the WRS airwaves as our very own Sabine Hutcheson, Director of Marketing and Head of Secondary Admissions, exchanged with Mark Butcher about our school’s French provision for both native and non-native students.

By incorporating French into both classroom learning and extra-curricular activities, we make sure that our students, no matter their French level, have the opportunity to practise the language in diverse settings while not compromising the integrity of the English National Curriculum that our school delivers. From French story time and singing sessions in our Early Years classrooms to the introduction of formal French lessons by language level, from the practise of French during informal interactions between teachers and students through to teaching P.E. and Art in French or extension exercises given in French in other curriculum subjects, our learners are able to make progress in the language in a way that is natural, enjoyable and relatable to the rest of their learning in English.
