Outstanding GCSE results at Geneva English School
Once more, Geneva English School students have brought home a remarkable set of grades on their GCSE exams, by far exceeding UK averages, and surpassing our results from last year!
Highlights:
- 98% pass rate (vs the UK average of 67.4%)
- 30% Grade 9 (2.5 times last year’s result)
- 2/3 of grades at 7 and above
- 19% students have a mean grade of 9
- 70% students have a mean grade of 7 or above
- All sciences have an average grade of 8 or above
GCSE subjects are graded on a scale from 9 to 1, with 9 being the highest grade achievable, generally awarded to fewer than 5% of students in any given year.
We are particularly proud of our students’ achievement in History and Geography, with 68% and 73% grades 9-8, respectively. At Geneva English School, History and Geography are both core subjects that lay foundations for the critical mindset and evidence-based research skills that are invaluable to most subjects at A Level and beyond. This year’s results are testament to GES’ high academic standards, our teachers’ expertise in preparing students, but most of all to the students’ own work ethic, the result of the healthy and productive environment we have established.
General Certificates of Secondary Education (GCSE) signify the end of mandatory secondary schooling in the UK and British schools worldwide. Whilst some other schools in the region offer GCSE qualifications, GES is the only school in the canton of Geneva that teaches the English National Curriculum from Pre-school to A Levels, providing a coherence in curriculum and approach throughout.
GES students study either 10 or 11 GCSE subjects, an ambitious number and range, including the core subjects of English Language and Literature, Maths, Sciences (Separate or Combined), French, History, Geography, and a wide variety of options such as Modern Foreign Languages, Computer Science, Art, Music, Drama and Physical Education.
Congratulations to all of our GCSE students and to their teachers for for this incredible performance!
