GCSE results double the UK average!

Date Posted: Friday 23 August 2024

Congratulations to our Year 11 students on their GCSE results.

Our fourth GCSE cohort have completed this phase of their education career with a solid set of grades that will allow them to progress to the next stage: A Levels at GES.

GCSEs are graded on a scale of 9 to 1, with 9 being the highest mark awarded as a distinction to those who have performed exceptionally well. This year at GES, 12% of the grades awarded to our students were a 9, more than twice the average of all students in the UK (just 5%). A total of 41% of our entries received a grade 7 or above, the equivalent to an A grade, again twice the average of students in the UK.

Among the many GES highlights is our Science department, where each of our students entered achieved a grade of 9 in the Triple Science qualification in Biology, Chemistry and Physics.

The excellent grades achieved in French and German reflect the strength of our Modern Foreign Languages department. Our linguists’ success demonstrates how well prepared GES students are for future university study and careers in Switzerland and Europe.

Outstanding results for our Year 10 Early Entries in Languages

GES students who excel in languages have the opportunity to take their GCSE one year early, in the same vein as the Swiss ‘examens anticipés’.

Year 10 students who took language GCSEs as early entries this year have performed incredibly well with 100% grade 9 – the highest distinction. Languages include French, German, Spanish, Italian and Russian.

We thank our teaching and support staff for guiding and supporting our students through this crucial step towards their higher education. Particular thanks go to Mr Crabtree who is facilitating a smooth transition into the A Level programme for our Year 11 students.
