First GCSE Results for Geneva English School students

Date Posted: Thursday 12 August 2021

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Geneva, Switzerland, 12 August 2021 – Excellent results achieved by the first cohort of GCSE students at Geneva English School, a sought-after international school following a modern British curriculum including GCSE and A Level courses.

GES Secondary opened in September 2016 with the aim of providing a world class British education in Geneva. Today, our first cohort of students collected their GCSE results and they should be feeling incredibly proud. Over 72% of all grades awarded were at a 7 or above (the old grade A) with 35% at grade 9 (the highest possible grade). These fantastic results wouldn’t have been possible without the hard work of the students, the expert teaching and dedication of the GES staff and the support of parents.

Matthew Williams, Head of Geneva English School, commented
“I am so proud and pleased for our first Year 11 group in achieving these excellent results through a very difficult period. They studied hard and diligently whilst being supported all the way by our wonderful teachers, who gave their all to ensure that the students were ready. With over 62% of all grades awarded either an 8 or 9, I am absolutely delighted for the students and their families. These really are brilliant results.

What makes our first set of results so special to me is that some of the students have been with us since their first days of Primary school. GES is an academic school with a heart and our students have not only achieved wonderful results but have also grown up to be brilliant role models and leaders of the future. For many, this journey started in GES Primary. A number of the students are now staying on to join our newly opened A Level programme and we are excited to continue to stretch and challenge them through the rigour of their A Level study and on to world leading universities.”

GES Secondary is full in Years 10 and 11 for the next academic year, but is happy to take enquiries about limited places that are left for the A Level programme for an August 2021 start and for places on a waiting list if you are interested in studying GCSE or A Levels now or in the future. Geneva English School (GES) is an academically successful, international, all through school (3 to 18) based just outside of Geneva on the shores of Lake Leman overlooking Mt Blanc. Following the British National Curriculum from ages 3 to 18 with a wide number of GCSE and IGCSE courses between ages 15 and 16 followed by A Levels from age 17 to 18, students can take advantage of an engaging, rigorous and demanding UK curriculum. It gives students a broad exposure to learning when they are younger and then allows specialisation in areas of interest as they get older. A Levels are recognised worldwide and are a passport to an outstanding university education.
With close to 50 nationalities, GES serves a diverse range of international students and families from the UN, the local missions, NGO’s, the corporate sector as well as Swiss families looking for an international, English-language education with a strong French component.
The last Independent Schools Inspectorate which inspects British schools overseas rated GES “Excellent” (the highest grading possible) in all eight aspects, including the quality of education provided, the pupils’ academic and wider achievements, their attitudes to learning, the quality of the pupils’ personal development, and the effectiveness of governance, leadership and management.
