GES celebrates outstanding Examination successes
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
Geneva, Switzerland, 18 August 2022
Following the exceptional success of our first cohort of GCSE students last year, the first set of AS Level results at GES have been received this morning. 87% of all grades awarded were at an A or B grade (the top two grades), with 60% of the total grades awarded being the top mark, which is A at AS Level.
The students that have been at GES since Primary, and those that have joined GES specifically for our new A Level programme, have performed exceptionally well. This is testament to the quality of teaching and the academic rigor at GES, preparing our students to join leading global universities.
Matthew Williams, Head of Geneva English School, said “I am incredibly proud of our Year 12 students who have performed brilliantly in their AS Level exams. This group of students has studied hard and put up with the disruptions caused by COVID over the past two years. Nevertheless, they have taken advantage of our expert teaching and guidance from Mr Crabtree, our head of Key Stage 5 and achieved a brilliant set of results. The students and their families need to be congratulated on such a great success and we are grateful for the outstanding commitment of the staff who have taught and supported them.”
Head of Key Stage 5, Daniel Crabtree, commented “We’re excited for where these results will take our students. As they return to school for their final year of study, our A Level Programme students benefit from these excellent grades to distinguish their applications to selective universities across the world, from Switzerland and Europe, to the UK, US and beyond.”
Information about A and AS Levels and the GES A Level pathway (post-16 education)
- AS Levels are sat at the end of the first year of A Level study and are graded from A to E. They are formal qualifications that cover just under half of the A Level course.
- The A Level exam is sat at the end of the two year course and is graded A* to E. Our cohort will sit the full A Level examination next summer.
- GES opened the A Level Programme in September 2021 and, from September 2022, has over 30 students studying for A Levels across Year 12 and 13.

Geneva English School (GES) is an academically successful, international, all through school (3 to 18) based just outside of Geneva on the shores of Lake Leman overlooking Mt Blanc. Following the British National Curriculum from ages 3 to 18 with a wide number of GCSE and IGCSE courses between ages 15 and 16 followed by A Levels from age 17 to 18, students can take advantage of an engaging, rigorous and demanding UK curriculum. It gives students a broad exposure to learning when they are younger and then allows specialisation in areas of interest as they get older. A Levels are recognised worldwide and are a passport to an outstanding university education.
With close to 50 nationalities, GES serves a diverse range of international students and families from the UN, the local missions, NGO’s, the corporate sector as well as Swiss families looking for an international, English-language education with a strong French component.
The last Independent Schools Inspectorate which inspects British schools overseas rated GES “Excellent” (the highest grading possible) in all eight aspects, including the quality of education provided, the pupils’ academic and wider achievements, their attitudes to learning, the quality of the pupils’ personal development, and the effectiveness of governance, leadership and management.
